A Yerevan court is considering today the restraint of Tigran Khachatryan, the son of controversial Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan, the Investigation Committee said. Tigran was taken to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun districts this morning. He was detained two days ago in connection with the May 2 incident in the southeastern town of Goris. He was suspected of inflicting grave bodily harm on brothers Harut and Mushegh Zakaryan outside Goris, at a place known as Sdghi Gyol, on May 2. Today, the Investigation Department of Particularly Important Cases brought charges against Syunik Governor’s son who was detained on July 25. The preliminary investigation revealed that during a May 2 brawl near Sdghi Gyol T. Khachatryan used violence against Harutyun Zakaryan, causing serious bodily harm to the latter’s health. T. Khachatryan has been charged under Article 112 (Part 1) of Armenia’s Criminal Code. On the same day, the investigator filed a petition to apply detention as a precautionary measure against Khachatryan. Investigation is underway. Given the public interest in the case, the Investigation Committee promises to periodically provide people with updated information on the case and judicial decisions. Tigran Khachatryan was reportedly among several dozen men who beat up and seriously injured brothers Harut and Mushegh Zakaryan outside Goris, at a place known as Sdghi Gyol, on May 2. Harut lost vision in one eye while his elder brother Mushegh suffered a broken nose. The brothers claimed that the attackers were led by the 22-year-old Tigran Khachatryan. The parents of the injured brothers claim that their sons had been beaten up with stick, clubs and metal items as a result of which Harut lost the sight of one of his eyes.
