The European Union reiterates its approach: we recognize Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty. Neither the EU nor its member countries have recognised Nagorno Karabakh, President of the European Council Donald Tusk announced in Baku on Wednesday during joint press conference with Ilham Aliyev. He added that the status quo in the conflict zone may not be permanent. “The peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains a priority for the EU. We also continue to support the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Tusk stressed. Despite the recent tensions in the relations between Baku and the West, as well as Aliyev’s sharp statements that the ideo of European integration does not appeal to Azerbaijan Tusk received a due welcome at the Azerbaijani President’s Zagulba residence outside Baku, with strict observance of rules of protocol.
