Stepan Sargsyan Wrestling Tournament: Foreign wrestlers receive $59 000

Armenia won 9 out of 32 medals at the 20th International Wrestling Tournament after Stepan Sargsyan held at Mika Sports Complex in Yerevan from July 17 to 19. The website for the Wrestling Federation of Armenia reports that Volodya Frangulyan (61 kg), David Safaryan (65 kg) and Levan Berianidze (125 kg) came first after beating all their rivals. Armenia’s Garik Barseghyan (57 kg), Gor Torosyan (61 kg), Tigran Mnatsakanyan (70 kg), Grigor Grigoryan (74 kg), Musa Martazaliev (86 kg) and Vahe Simonyan (125 kg) took bronze medals and were awarded with $1000 each. Thus, $59 000 of the 80 000 provided by President of the Olympic Committee of Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan, went to foreigners: first-place winners received $5 000, second and third place winners received $3 000 and $1 000 respectively. Wrestlers from 12 countries participateed in the tournament this year.
