SIS investigates police actions in June 23 cracdown

The Special Investigation Service has opened a criminal case in connection with impeding journalists' work, abuse of power combined with violence, the SIS Press Service said on Friday. After studying media reporters, videos and other material, it was revealed that during the special action to disperse the demonstration organized by the No to Plunder Initiative in Baghramyan Avenue and the ensuing sit-in on June 23, the representatives of law enforcement agencies abused power and used violence against demonstrators and journalists that were covering the events in the avenue, at Liberty Square and its neighborhood as well as in different police station. They inflicted bodily injuries to them, damaged or broke their cameras, thereby hindering journalists’ professional activities The criminal case has been instituted under Articles 309 (Part 2), 164 (Part 2) and 185 (Part 1) of the Armenian Criminal Code.
