“Some people will be brought to account”
Yerevan Deputy Police Chief Valeri Osipyan doesn’t comment on yesterday’s statement by the police, that “every protest has its beginning and end”. When will that end come, Deputy Police Chief answers, “When it comes…” Does the withdrawal of water cannons and other vehicles mean that the police aren’t going to take actions, “We can restore public order here without a water cannon. You shouldn’t be afraid of the water cannon, it is also regulated by the law, and there is such a special means in every country.” He also denies the information that the power of water from a water cannon blinds, “I have heard of it for the first time.” Why don’t the police try to restore the public order during the hours, when there are few protesters? Yerevan Deputy Police Chief offers the journalists to do it, “Try yourself, you can. You already know how the police act.” Osipyan is also waiting for a step by the citizens, “As our citizens are legally conscious, they can take a good step and I am sure that they will do it.” But what if his expectations don’t come true? “We will restore the public order, when the time comes.” And what does he think when the policemen hit the citizens unreasonably? “If there are such policemen, if it corresponds to the reality, that policeman will be brought to account. I assure that there will be some people who will be brought to account.”
