Since the Prosecutor’s Office does not have investigative services, the case of Russian serviceman Valery Permyakov will be forwarded to the Special Investigation Committee for investigation, Chairman of the Investigation Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan said in a briefing with reporters in the General Prosecutor's Office. Last week Russia agreed to allow Armenian law-enforcement authorities to prosecute Valery Permyakov who has confessed to murdering the seven-member Avetisyan family in Gyumri in January. Russia's decision to transfer the murder case to the jurisdiction of Armenia’s Investigative Committee was welcomed by Serzh Sargsyan during a meeting with Russia’s Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov. Speaking about a May 2 incident outside Armenia’s southeastern town of Goris that involved Tigran Khachatryan, the notorious son of Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan, Mr Hovsepyan said the Prosecutor General's Office had remitted the case to the Special Investigation Committee and the case is now being investigated by the Committee. Aghvan Hovsepyan refrained from answering any question concerning the ongoing protests against rising electricity prices.
