Minas Sargsyan, who filed a lawsuit against Azerbaijan 10 years ago, dreamed about returning and living in Gulistan, today announced his son- Vladimir Sargsyan. The European Court of Human Rights on June 16 upheld Minas Sargsyan’s claim against Azerbaijan and Elkhan Chiragov and the claim of others against Armenia by offering the governments of two countries to create a mechanism, with the help of which the people, who were dispossessed because of Karabakh war, will be able to restore their right of property and will be compensated. Minas Sargsyan’s son hopes that the decision of the ECHR will promote Karabakh conflict settlement and the important fact is that they gained victory against Azerbaijan. “Today I have read an article that Azerbaijan’s President is displeased with the Sargsyan family,” he noted during the discussion at “Media Center”. Executive Director of “Against legal arbitrariness” NGO, former human rights defendant of the RA Larisa Alaverdayan considers the decision of the ECHR to be precedential. “After receiving it, it isn’t mandatory that all the IDP apply to the ECHR. The issue can be also solved in the national courts.” According to her words, more than 600 applications have been received in the ECHR from Armenia and about 400 from Azerbaijan.
