On June 20, Prime Minister of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic Arayik Harutyunyan visited Shahumyan region where he welcomed almost 200 families who had arrived from Russia, Ukraine and Armenia to spend their summer holidays in Karabakh. These families heard the call of the Artsakh Compatriot Union (ACU) led by Varujan Grigoryan that has planned a sort of homecoming for families who left Artsakh in the aftermath of the Karabakh War. Prime Minister Harutyunyan expressed his gratitude to the ACU and its Chairman Varujan Grigoryan for organizing the trip. The official said the initiative was significant not only for those living in Artsakh but for all those who had left the country. The Prime Minister said the most important is that the initiative is a good opportunity to connect these people with their historical homeland. “We are glad that our compatriots responded to the call and come to rest in Artsakh. I am hopeful that we shall see many families return and settle in the fatherland in the course of time,” he said. Varujan Grigoryan also welcomed the families and thanked Mr harutyunyan for the warm reception. “I am very happy and excited that so many people heeded our call. This is a very big patriotic step and I think that every Armenian should spend at least a week of their holidays on their native soil,” he said.
