Richard Giragosian: NKR Defence Army and Armenian Defense Ministry are different structures
During the 89th Rose-Roth seminar underway in Yerevan, Deputy Defence Minister of Armenia, Ara Nazaryan, was asked where the NKR Defence Army gets its ammunition. Mr Nazaryan said that similar reforms are carried out both in the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The official also said that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is an independent state, has its own resources, and accordingly, cares for its needs. Richard Giragosian is the Founding Director of the Regional Studies Center (RSC), disagreed with the deputy minister, saying, “I do not see any similarities. The Nagorno Karabakh Republic is a sovereign state, therefore, the NKR Defence Army cannot be subject to the Armenian Defense Ministry. These are two different structures.”
