Edmon Marukyan visits Shant Harutyunyan
Armenian lawmaker Edmon Marukyan today visited the Vardashen penitentiary to see Vardan Vardanyan and Shant Harutyunyan. The latter began a hunger strike on June 8 saying his life is endangered and asking to be transferred to a unitary cell. “During the visit, I had a private talk with the two inmates, examined the conditions in which they are kept and asked them to stop the hunger strike,” Mr Marukyan wrote on his Facebook account. “Shant Harutyunyan has asked to transfer him to a separate cell which is within his rights and I hope his request will be upheld,” the lawmaker said. Edmon Marukyan says Vardan Vardanyan began a hunger strike to support his friend-Shant Harutyunyan and promised to stop the hunger strike as soon as Harutyunyan’s request is met.
