NA “Heritage” faction deputy Tevan Poghosyan thinks that the recent summit held in Riga was favorable for Armenia in different directions. According to his words, at that summit the EU showed that it is ready to continue the cooperation with Armenia independent of which kind of political path Armenia has chosen. He thinks that the EU has given Armenia a mandate of starting new talks. Tevan Poghosyan hopes that until the end of 2015 Armenia will have a new comprehensive document, which will include an economic component besides the political element. “Riga has given Armenia that opportunity, it is another issue how much we can use it and what kind of steps we will take in order to realize all that. The EU has decided to show individual approach to each country and it is a very welcome step,” he noted. The lawmaker thinks that Riga Summit had only positive formulations for us. In this context Tevan Poghosyan also touched upon the factor of Russia, to what extent it will become an obstacle in the field of developing the EU-Armenia relations. The speaker noted that even Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had announced that Russia isn’t against the multi-directional policy of the EU. Yet, “Heritage” representative highlighted that Russia is always guided by its own interests and our authorities must understand it and must be guided by the interests of our country. “Russia may change its position every day, but it doesn’t mean that we must follow them. We must learn lessons from the happening on September 3, 2013 and also take into account the fact that our Foreign Minister has spoken of multi-directional policy for many times,” he said. To the remark, whether for the EU or Armenia the new phase of relations and future developments are more beneficial, Mr. Poghosyan answered that it is beneficial for two sides.
