Head of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction today called on everyone to participate in the May 27 rally and march against the possible rise in electricity prices. “I understand that our people are not ready to take to the streets en masse, but one day it will happen. The sooner we put an end to this chaos and looting, the better,” levon Zurabyan said during today’s parliamentary briefings. Speaking about the possible consolidation of the opposition forces against the rise in electricity rates, Mr Zurabyan said, “When the HAK was represented in parliament, we launched a collection of signature. Then we began cooperation with the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). However, the format of cooperation between the two forces was shattered in the aftermath of a crackdown on the BHK. In think life will again force opposition forces to start cooperation and the problem of electricity prices will become a cornerstone for future cooperation,” he said. Speaking about the recent attack on the car of Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan (aka Liska) and the statement of the Armenian Prosecutor General, Mr Zurabyan said half-joking, “Kill Liska in yourself. My advice is addressed to Surik Khachatryan, too.” Suren Khachatryan, his driver and assistant came under fire on Kapan-Goris road on Wednesday, May 20. the Investigative Committee later issued a statement saying nobody was hurt in the shooting. The Committee also said they were taking necessary investigative measures to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
