Members of the ICRC Azerbaijani representation have visited Armenian citizen Arsen Baghdasaryan kept in Azerbaijani captivity since December, 2014, Zara Amatuni, Head of Communication Programs of the ICRC Yerevan Office, told A1+. “We regularly visit Arsen Baghdasaryan, assess his health and the conditions he is kept in,” she said adding that she could not give any information about Baghdasaryan’s health because the information is only provided to relevant authorities. At the same time, Zara Amatuni said Arsen Baghdasaryan can communicated with his family members through the ICRC Yerevan Office. Baghdasaryan was taken prisoner by Azerbaijani forces on December 26, 2014 under yet unclear conditions. Baku immediately announced that he was part of an Armenian sabotage-reconnaissance group and was captivated after a failed attempt by the group to carry out subversive activities in the direction of Aghdam. In reply to official Baku, military authorities in Karabakh said that was a contract serviceman but denied any raid attempted into Azerbaijani-controlled territory. The Ganja Court on Grave Crimes has found Baghdasaryan guilty of a number of charges, including subversive activities against the state of Azerbaijan, and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. Earlier, the prosecutor at the trial in Ganja demanded an 18-year imprisonment for the Armenian national.
