On May 20 the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov took part in the conference titled “Genocide: the Condemnation is Compulsory” organized for the first time in the history at the Session Hall of the parliament of the Republic of Greece. The Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Zoi Konstantopoulou gave a speech in the opening of the conference and noted in particular: “The non-condemnation of the genocide generates new crimes. We shall call a spade a spade: the history of the mankind should be proofread with honest approaches.” In the international condemnation of genocides Zoi Konstantopoulou highlighted the necessity of the Greek and Armenian MPs’ united struggle at international platforms. The RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov also delivered a speech at the conference. He has emphasized the holding of the historical conference, noting that the Armenian-Greek inter-parliamentary cooperation obtains a new quality, which can be effective in advancing the united agenda of the parliaments of the two countries. Eduard Sharmazanov reaffirmed the need of the struggle against Turkish denialism. He stated in particular: “The official Ankara, denying the Christian peoples’ genocide, becomes an accomplice of the heinous crime committed by the Young Turks a century ago, then by the Kemalist, taking onto its shoulders the burden of the martyrdom of millions of innocent people.” The RA Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Greece Gagik Ghalachyan, the Head of Hay Dat/Armenian Cause European Office Gaspar Karapetian, the President of the Federation of Pontian Associations of Southern Greece and Islands George Varythymiadis and the Greek MPs delivered speeches.
