Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev will not attend the Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Riga on May 21-22, BBC Russian says citing President’s aide for public and political affairs, Ali Hasanov. “Ilham Aliyev has an extremely busy schedule as very little time is left to the start of the first European Games and preparations for this important event have entered the final stage. That’s why the head of state will not be able to attend the Summit,” said Ali Hasanov. The Eastern Partnership is designed to reinforce the political association and economic integration with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The source says the Presidents of Armenia and Belarus also refused to participate in the summit. However, Vahram Baghdasaryan, head of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) faction, said on Wednesday that Serzh Sargsyan will leave for Latvia on May 21 to participate in the summits of the European People’s Party and the EU Eastern Partnership.
