Free Homeland Party takes lead in Artsakh vote

Parliamentary elections took place in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) on Sunday, May 3. According to the information of the NKR Central Election Commission, 72 039 (70, 6%) voters went to the polls as of 20.00 p.m. The CEC has not received any complaints regarding the elections. Forty-six candidates and seven political parties were running for the 33-seat NKR Parliament. Among the parties participating in the elections are the Free Homeland headed by Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan, Artsakh Democratic Party led by Parliament Speaker Ashot Ghulyan, Artsakh Revival, National Revival, Communist Party, Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D), Movement 88 and the newly formed Peace and Progress. Twenty-two MPs are elected by a party-list proportional representation system, the rest are elected in single seat constituencies. Forty-two candidates were running for eleven majoritarian MP seats. According to preliminary data, the Free Homeland is leading in the Sunday vote. Below are the preliminary results of the elections.

  2. Artsakh Revival Party –nears  the five=percent threshold
  3. Artsakh Democratic Party – 19%,
  4. Arsakh Communist Party – 1.5%,
  5. Peace and Progress Party– below 1%
