The arrested members of the Founding Parliament movement, an opposition group seeking regime change in Armenia, will be set free later on Monday, according to social networks. The five leading members of the opposition group - Zhirayr Sefilyan, Pavel Manukyan, Garegik Chukaszyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan and Gevorg Safaryan – were arrested on April 7 on suspicion of planning to stir up ‘mass disturbances’ at the sites of genocide centenary commemorations on April 24. The arrested oppositionists deny the charges and consider that the government is persecuting them for their political views. They are currently in custody. Sefilyan’s wife seemed to be unaware of the information spread in social networks. NEWS.am reports that the prosecutor has gone to the penitentiary institution to inform the prison administration of the decision to release the opposition activists. The five men will be set free by cognizance not to leave the city. Hayk Grigoryan and Gevorg Davtyan, the lawyers of the jailed FP members, were also unaware of the decision. Talking to A1+ Company, FP member Garo Yeghnukyan said they do not possesses such information either.
