Anna Hakobyan: “Attempts of pressure against the press have been through different ways” (video)
The condition of the media sector in 2014 was the worst in the last 10 years. It is the latest assessment by “Freedom House” organization. Armenia also didn’t make progress: since 2002 our media have been assessed not free. The Director of “Armenpress” news agency has other opinion, the press are rather free in our country, especially when compared with neighboring countries. “Freedom House” published its report ahead of the World Press Freedom Day. According to the assessments of the experts, the authorities put pressure especially for keeping the TV companies under control through not formal ways. There are also pressures on other means of the media. Anna Hakobyan, Editor in Chief at “Armenian times” daily, thinks that attempts of pressure against the press have been through different ways, variants- penalties against journalists and editors, beatings, attacks on editorial offices, pickets and protest actions against the editorial offices, which had no results.
