Europe voices the issue of the Armenian Genocide and condemns it not only for humanitarian but also political considerations. Today Turkey has tense relations with the EU and Europe could not miss the opportunity to put pressure on Turkey, “All the countries have their interests and show their attitude towards Turkey through their political actions. The reaction of the EU member countries is also connected with the rapprochement between Turkey and Russia,” thinks historian Bagrat Yesayan. Recently the relations of Turkey and the USA have not been ideal either, but the interests of Turkey and the USA coincide very much so that Obama would come out against Turkey and use the term “genocide”. Even in this case Armenia can use the situation and make a gain. But the historian says that the second part of the slogan “I remember and demand” must be wholly implemented, “It isn’t clear for me that we have demands, but only in the issue of recognition, for what to recognize?” Taking into account the political interests, we mustn’t forget the work, which has been done for years in order to influence the mindset of the European society. “Many people, who did it based on conscience or universal values, had come to that conclusion due to the informational work implemented by Armenians,” says Turkologist Andranik Ispiryan. Though April 24 was the peak of Centennial events, the experts don’t exclude that the pressure of Europe on Turkey will continue. And sooner or later Turkey will be obliged to face its own history.
