Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan today visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial on Tsisternakaberd hilltop with representatives of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and his granddaughter. Levon Ter-Petrosyan refused to answer journalists’ questions. HAK member Aram Manukyan said Armenian authorities are not taking enough steps for the international recognition of the Armenian genocide. “You cannot say ‘I remember and demand” one day and say you do not want anything on the following day,” said the HAK member. HAK member Levon Zurabyan has declared April 24 a day of silence. He does not want to speak about the authorities today when Armenians are paying their respects to the victims massacred in the 1915 Genocide in Ottoman Turkey. “Let us not talk about politics on the centennial of the massacres,” he said. Heritage Party Leader Raffi Hovannisian is not satisfied with authorities either. “I am doing what I can do,” he said. Mr Hovannisian refrained from commenting on Obama’s statement which again did not contain the word ‘Genocide.’ Every year I remember my grandmothers and grandfathers. I try to talk to them and tell them what we have done to return their lost homeland. None of the foreign leaders will return us our lands,” he said.
