On April 20th   at 12:00 the Institute for War and Peace Reporting Armenia Branch, in cooperation with the Public Journalism Club’s Media Center, will hold New Migration Legislation Requirements in Georgia and Issues of the Local Armenian Community” panel discussion (Address: 30 Saryan Street).  Representatives from the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, as well as experts from both countries – Armenia and Georgia - will take part in the discussion. In 2015 Georgia amended its immigration law to comply with the EU Association Agreement. This regulation is now being applied to Georgian-born Armenians who have been stripped of their citizenship because they hold second passports, which let labor migrants with Armenian and Russian passports travel to Russia without visa. The Georgian authorities say they are working to fix the problem and have delayed immigration law changes from January 1 to July 1. However, Armenians in Georgia say they still face the problems regarding this issue. Officials and experts from Georgia will discuss the issues of Armenian Community in Georgia withSergey Minasyan, Head of the Political Studies Department at the Yerevan-based Caucasus Institute (Armenia); Johnny Melikyan, expert on Georgian affairs (Armenia); Arnold Stepanian, Chairman of the Multinational Georgia Movement (Georgia); and Ruben Palyan, Head of Akhalkalaki Department of Public Service Development Agency (under Ministry of Justice) (Georgia). Participants from Georgia will join the discussion via video call.
