Ahead of commemorative events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide how much Yerevan is ready for hospitality. Improvement activities still continue in the capital, which will be the main venue for the events during those days. In response to the inquiry of “A1+” Information and Public Relations Department of Yerevan Municipality informed that the work, which must have been finished until April 20, has already been finished, but there is still work to be done. According to the information provided by the Municipality, 5 monuments commemorating memory of the Genocide victims have been brought to a proper condition. Drinking fountains and toilets have been placed in the surrounding area of Tsitsernakaberd Memorial to serve the citizens. Ongoing activities will be brought to an end several days before the launch of the events. There are concerns, that Yerevan hotels will have difficulty to meet the expected high demand. Our research shows that it is already impossible to reserve rooms for April 23-25 at high-class hotels of Yerevan such as “Marriott Armenia”, “Erebuni”, “Ani”, “Royal Tulip Grand Hotel”, “Hyatt Place”, “Yerevan”. High-class hotel “North Avenue” still offers rooms worth AMD 285 000 for 2 people. 10 days before the launch of the events it is possible to find free rooms at guesthouses. A room for 2 people for 2 nights costs AMD 60 000-80 000 on average. Mekhak Apresyan, Head of Tourism Department at Ministry of Economy notes in the interview that they have done research and they are aware that almost all the rooms at high-class hotels have been already reserved, “To note, that people have already reserved hotel rooms online before arriving in Armenia. Nowadays people also rent private flats, as there are many such flats in Yerevan. Tour operators also carry out activities.” Mekhak Apresyan says that their department has no responsibility for providing places to the participants of April 24 events during their stay in Yerevan.
