Levon Barseghyan: People like Slutski treat us like people of the third sort (video)
Chairman of Gyumri-based Journalists Club Asbarez, Levon Barseghyan, says the public demand has not been met in connection with the Gyunri murder case. Armenia's Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan is constantly writing letters to his Russian counterpart but the letters remain unanswered. “Under the Constitution, Serzh Sargsyan is the guarantor of our security, Two months have passed since the tragic events in Gyumri but he has done nothing to ensure the repetition of such a tragedy on the territory of Armenia. It seems nothing has happened. With his inaction, that man [Serzh Sargsyan] has proved that he does not care for the interests of his citizens. Many say, ‘What can that poor man do?’ He can give technical guarantees, invite a roundtable discussion with Russian and Armenian experts, discuss the matter with them and think of ways to exclude repetition of similar crimes in the country,” Levon Barseghyan said. “Who are you? And why should we-Armenians – beg you handover the Russian murderer who killed a family in Gyumri city to Armenian law enforcement agencies People like Slutski [head of the Russian State Duma’s committee in charge of CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and ties with compatriots] treat us like people of the third or fourth sort. They are lulling us. “I think the trial will be open to everyone,” says Slutski. What about laws? It is normal for a country which does not have legitimate authorities that people like Slutski can come and make delirious speeches. The reason is that on September 3 we lost its sovereignty,” he said. Valery Permyakov, a Russian soldier charged with deserting a military base in Gyumri and murdering a seven-member Armenian family in January, will be tried by a Russian military court in Armenia, Leonid Slutski, said in Yerevan today. Slutski also said that issues concerning the Gyumri murder will also be discussed during Russian State Duma Chairman Sergey Naryshkin’s official visit to Armenia that begins on Monday.
