Hotel prices in Armenia have risen by 30-40 percent, Director of Armenia Travel tour agency Marine Kpryan said on March 27. “They say the price hike is determined by the currency fluctuations and depreciation of the Armenian dram, rather than the flow of visitors who are coming to the country to participate in the Genocide commemorative events,” she said. The number of visitors is expected to triple in the coming months as compared with the same period in previous years. One cannot find vacant rooms in many hotels as reservations have been done in advance. Armenians prevail among the visitors who arrive in Yerevan from Russia, France, Kazakhstan and other countries. Marine Kpryan says tour agencies have to work with real state agencies to accommodate tourists in apartments. She says although Armenia is not popular as a tourist destination, inbound tourism prospers and the number of tourists increases every year. “Armenia is known worldwide as a hospitable country with good cuisine,” she added.
