Rudolf Kharatyan: Narekatsi did not allow me to stage his work (video)
Ten artists from five countries have joined Armenian ballet dancers to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the language of ballet. On the occasion to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, ballet master Rudolf Kharatyan is going to stage the ballet performance “A pair of Suns” based on Narekatsi's Book of Lamentations. This is an International project, which will include both foreign and local artists. The idea came to Mr Kharatyan 40 years ago but he has been unable to realize his dream throughout these years. “Narekatsi did not allow me to stage his work. There was time when I could not understand Narekatsi’s work but today I understand every single word of it,” says Mr Kharatyan. The audience will have a chance to see on the stage Armenian celebrities of the past, including Arshil Gorki, Narekatsi, Toros Roslin and others who will present to the audience the pecularities of their art, thought, writing and literature.
