The formation of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) is linked to Robert Kocharyan, the second President of the Republic of Armenia. The leader of the party was businessman Gagik Tsarukyan who led it since its formation in 2004. During the party’s second congress held in 2006, the BHK already had tens of thousands. It debuted in the 2007 Armenian parliamentary elections, winning 18 seats and 14.68% of the votes, making it the second largest political party in parliament. In the 2012 Armenian parliamentary elections, it more than doubled its share of the vote to 30.12%, winning 37 seats and solidifying its position as the main opposition party. Later, the BHK formed a coalition government with the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) and Armenian Revolutionary Federation –Dashnaktsutyun. In his pre-election campaigns, BHK Leader Gagik Tsarukyan repeated his slogan, “You know that I keep my promises and my actions always prove my words.” In 2009, many assumed that the leader of the second largest political party in parliament was a serious contender for the post of Armenian Prime Minister. Tsarukyan simply laughed when asked about his aspirations. In the political domain, the BHK was mostly remarkable for the activities of Gagik Tsarukyan Foundation. Analysts believed that the party would gain maximum 8% of the votes at the next parliamentary elections. Tsarukyan held a different opinion. “Those who say such nonsense are greatly mistaken. They cannot even raise their voice in their homes.” Details are available in the video
