Barack Obama extends sanctions against Russia for one year

 US President Barack Obama has extended for one year some of the sanctions, introduced earlier against Russia in relation to the crisis in Ukraine, the White House’s press service said on Tuesday.

The sanctions that have been extended were imposed in March and December 2014.

Obama believes that 'the security and foreign policy of the United States constitute a special and unusual threat' is still there. He said that this threat include 'undermining the policy and personal Ukrainian democratic processes and institutions, is not conducive to peace, security, stability, sovereignty and territorial complete. '

“I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13660 with respect to Ukraine,” Obama wrote in his notice on Tuesday.

Following the crisis in Ukraine, the West adopted a series of sanctions against Russia, including financial services, energy and military sectors, as well as individuals in Russia and Crimea and separatists in eastern Ukraine.
