The closed-door hearings on the murder of a seven-member family in Armenia’s Gyumri city have been postponed until next week. The hearings have been initiated by non-governing forces in the Armenian parliament. The reason for the postponement is that a group of legislators are leaving for Karabakh to discuss the weekend incident near Berdzor. Tevan Poghosyan, Secretary of the opposition Heritage faction says the closed-door discussion is a unique format as you can use any idea you have on your behalf, without citing the source or the author. On Thursday, police arrested Mnatsakan Alexanyan, a 22-year-old resident of Sarnaghbyur village, in connection with street protests in Gyumri in January, following the arrest of a Russian soldier who admitted murdering the seven-member Avetisyan family in Gyumri. Mnatsakan Alexanyan’s father Martiros Alexanyan told media that his son was invited to Maralik police department without a written notification, after which he was transferred to Gyumri Mush police department. Earlier, Armenian Prosecutor-General Gevorg Kostanyan turned to his Russian counterpart Yuri Chaika with a request to hand over Permyakov to Armenian jurisdiction. It is expected that Permyakov will be tried by a Russian tribunal.
