Valery Permyakov, the Russian soldier suspected of killing seven people in Armenia’s Gyumri city, may have had accomplices helping him, Deputy Chief of the Armenian Police Hunan Poghosyan said on Monday.

“All possible hypotheses that emerged during the preliminary investigation are being checked,” he said.

How did it happen that Armenian law enforcement agencies failed to detect Permyakov? Mr Poghosyan says if they discover that anyone failed to perform their duties, they will punish him.

The police official says he met Permyakov but did not ask him questions. “I am not ashamed to say the word – he is a bastard, gutter, rake.”

After meeting his Russian colleagues, Mr Poghosyan was convinced that they were sincerely interested in helping the Armenian side disclose the crime. During the press conference, the deputy chief of the Armenian Police assured everyone that Armenians have no reasons for worry ‘as we are living in a safe country.’
