Turkologist Artak Shakaryan was not surprised to hear that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invited his Armenian counterpart to participate in the the commemoration ceremonies marking the centennial of the Battle of Gallipoli on April 24. “Turkey had long prepared to to mark the 100th anniversary of its victory at the Dardanelles on April 24. Erdogan has sent out invitations to the leaders of more than 101 countries, including Armenian leader Serzh Sargsyan,” says the Turkologist. Mr Shakaryan thinks that Armenia should also speak about its victories on the eve of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. “It is time we came out of the image of Armenians who were slaughtered like sheep and show resistance, because in fact we did not sit idle when they were slaughtering us. We shall be marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Van in May and we are to prepare for it in due order,” he said.
