The Martyred Armenian Writers: 1915-1922 presented in NY

The presentation of Dr Herand Markarian’s new book, “The Martyred Armenian Writers: 1915-1922” took place at the Armenian Center in Woodside, New York on January 23. The presentation was sponsored by Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan, Prelate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Eastern U.S. and the New York Chapter of the Hamazkayin Cultural Association. The event was opened by Mesrob Lagisian, a pastor of St. Illuminator Apostolic Church . The attendees observed one minute's silence for the 1,5 million innocent victims  of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. The master of the ceremony was Zarmine Bighosian, Principal of Holy Martyrs Armenian Day School. She stressed that it was the first event dedicated to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Speeches were made by Iris Chekenian, the daughter of Aram Haigaz, Shant Mardirossian, Chairman of the Near East Foundation, Dr. George Demksian, Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian. The publication is a 244-page English anthology of the translated works of thirteen Armenian Martyred Writers. All translations are original and almost all are translated for the first time. The entire book is in English. “This is a great gift for our youth and for the generations to come in view of recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide,” Armenia’s Minister of Diaspora, Hranush Hakobyan said in a video call. Readings in English were presented by Natalie Gabrielian, Veh-Harach Bezdikian, Yeraz Markarian-Meschian and Aida Zilelian-Silak.
