Gyumri residents have never raised the issue of Russian military base, though during these days many people have just manipulated that issue. Today at the meeting with journalists noted political analyst Gagik Hambaryan from Gyumri turning to the massacre in Gyumri. He says that the situation in Gyumri is very tense during these days. The political analyst thinks that today there are many issues which remain unanswered and suspicious for Gyumri residents. “It is surprising for us how 19-year-old Permyakov could know the map of the city so well: he passed 5 km from the military base and reached the house of the Avetisyan. Even Gyumri residents don’t know about those roads.” Besides, he thinks nobody had even seen how Russian soldier Valeri Permyakov entered the house, nobody heard the shots though 27 bullets were found. Gyumri residents want to know, “Another obscure question is that if Permyakov is dissenter, why has he served in Russian army?” “Against Legal Abuse” NGO Head Larisa Alaverdyan also has many suspicions on the facts and versions presented. In particular, she is surprised that the period, when Permyakov was detected on Armenian-Turkish border, doesn’t fit physically, “Why isn’t he charged with crossing the border? There is no such accusation by Armenian or Russian side. I also doubt why Russian solider had personally applied to Russian army to be moved to Russian military base of Gyumri.” Mrs. Alaverdyan notes that Russian side shows legal arbitrariness. She also criticizes the RA authorities, who, instead of bringing police against the people, could have taken more reasonable steps, “I am against withdrawing Russian military base: it operates according to the treaty signed by all three Presidents of the RA and this issue mustn’t be discussed. Still Gyumri residents were right to hold a protest action at the military base. I am angry that our authorities didn’t respond to the tragedy immediately, and the fact, that our authorities responded only after the response by the leader of foreign country, is very bad.” It is symbolic for her that Gyumri massacre happened on the same day with Baku massacres, “The most important issue is who induced Permyakov. This version hasn’t been examined. There is also no motive for the murder. The soldier left the shoes with his name and went. My clothes may also appear somewhere, but it doesn’t mean that I have committed a crime. Our only source of the details on the murder is Russian side but I don’t trust it.”
