Why do Christian churches celebrate Christmas on different days? Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates Christmas on January 6. The Catholic Church celebrates the holiday on December 25. By the 4th century all Christians celebrated Christmas on January 6. But even after the adoption of Christianity Romans continued celebrating pagan holidays. On December 25 the day dedicated to the worship of the sun was celebrated solemnly. In order to impede pagan traditions in 336 Roman Church officially recognized December 25 as Christmas Day. Later in Assyria and all the East Christmas was moved to December 25 and January 6 remained as Feast of the Holy Theophany of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. Russian Orthodox Church and other Orthodox Churches celebrate Christmas on December 25 together with Catholic Church. And January 7 is celebrate as Feast of the Holy Theophany of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. Only Armenian Apostolic Church remained committed to the old traditions and Evangelical calculations and celebrates Christmas on January 6.
