The Central Bank will have to answer where the money flows, says the chairman of the Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia. Speaking about the recent dollar-dram fluctuations in Armenia’s currency market, Hrach Berberyan said the sharp increase in the dollar exchange rate resulted in price increases and forced many stores to close. The continuing decline of the national currency has also affected the sector of agriculture. “Villagers cannot pay bank loans. They took 1 million dram loans but now they have to repay AMD 1 million and 250 000. He loans should be frozen,” he said. Mr Berberyan has already discussed the problem with the Minister of Agriculture who agreed to his proposal.  He hopes the problem will be solved soon, moreover, he believes that 25 percent of the money must be paid by the CB. At the same time, the chairman of the Agrarian-Peasant Union thinks that the dollars purchased by the CB are sent overseas.  “They are sending the money to their bosses so that they can rest comfortably in Nice,” says Mr Berberyan. He adds that if the situation is not recovered by the end of the month, peasants will have to increase the prices of many products, including that of meat.
