The strike announced by minibus drivers in Yerevan is continuing in the city. The angered drivers are protesting against the increased prices of liquefied compressed gas and say they cannot work at the current tariff any longer. Henrik Navasardyan, Head of the Transport Department at Yerevan Municipality, has come up to talk to the protesters. He said the issue will be studied and they would try to find the best solution, at the same time urging drivers to return to work and transport people to their destinations. However, the protesters are resolute and do not intend to leave the area. Many say they cannot even afford to pay the new prices at gas filling stations to fill their tanks. Yerevan Mayor’s Advisor Albert Grigoryan has reportedly arrived at the site to talk to the group. He called on the drivers to open the street blocked during the protest. The protesters are now waiting for the Municipality’s decision. Gas prices have increased in Armenia to become 230 drams per cubic meter instead of former 180-190 AMD. Drivers now have to fill their tanks with fuel that is approximately 10 cents more expensive than before.
