Russian Parliament to discuss ratification of EEU accession treaty

The Russian parliament is set to discuss on December 10 the ratification of the treaty on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Regnum reports. “Armenia has shown the maximum will to go the Eurasian way of development. It is a historic decision for the formation of the EEU,” the head of the Russian Duma committee for CIS affairs, Leonid Slutsky, told TASS. Solutions were found for all issues, including that the countries are not bordering, he added. They refer to customs rates, as well. After joining the EEU, Armenia will exempt from customs duties military products to be imported between 2015 and 2022. The benefit will relate to products designed for Armenia’s armed forces, whose analogues are not produced in other EEU members. Also exempted from duty will be certain types of civil helicopters and jets, as well as goods imported to Armenia for construction and modernization of nuclear power plants. In accordance with the agreement, Armenia will become a member of the union after all the ratification procedures in member countries (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) are completed, but not earlier than January 1, 2015. Kyrgyzstan also expressed willingness to join the EEU.
