With a vote of 5 to 2, the treaty on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union was included in the agenda of the upcoming four-day sitting of the National Assembly. While introducing the document Deputy Finance Minister Suren Karayan said all customs formalities will be abolished within the EEU. Mr Karayan also said after joining the EEU the prices of raw materials and essential commodities will not be increased in the coming 2-5 years. The deputy minister was asked numerous questions; most of them were given by Mikael Melkumyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). “Will Armenia retain its sovereignty after EEU membership? Will the sanctions imposed on Russia be applied against Armenia as well? Lawmaker Khachatur Abovyan, who had been waiting for his turn to ask questions to the official lost his patience, by then. “We are not in a kindergarten, we are in parliament. Everyone has questions and everyone wants to have an opportunity to ask it,” he said. The deputy finance minister tried to answer all questions, but the answers did not satisfy either Khachatur Kokobelyan or Tevan Poghosyan, Secretary of the Heritage faction. They voted against it. They both voted against the document.
