Male officials aren’t pleased with that point (video)

Social

“Woman experiences violence even when she hasn’t managed to heat the meal in time,”- it is one of the violations recorded at the Center of Women’s Rights. “16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE” is held from November 25 to December 10. In our country the first institution dealing with issues of violence against women was founded in 1991. The center fights through three mechanisms: increase of awareness, service provision to women and children who suffered from family violence and improvement of legislation. The Hot Line of the center has operated for 16 years. The calls are getting more and more, but employees don’t connect it with the increase in cases of violence. The Head of Center for Women’s Rights stresses that women have become more courageous and independent and in case of any problem they immediately apply. This year they have received 1437 calls, 76 of which from regions. Women experience psychological, physical and sexual violence. “If a woman opens the door with her eyes down, husband asks why she is looking down, or when she is looking at his face, or when she hasn’t managed to heat the meal, these are also reasons for violence against women,”- says Center Head Susanna Vardanyan. The organization has presented a draft law on “Family violence” to the Government, but it hasn’t been accepted for a long time. According to the words of Head of the Center, the reason is one of the points in the draft, where it is stated that the violator must be taken out from the house for 10 days by Police. “This point doesn’t please male officials of Police and Government,”- stresses Susanna Vardanyan. The specialist is sure that with the adoption of that law, there would be big changes in the issue and family violence would become more obvious. Psychologist Marine Martirosyan stresses that though they work only with women, indirect work is also carried out with men and very often there are serious changes, as a result of which families continue their normal life.
