A working group including lawmakers from non-governing political parties has been set up to deal with the amendments to the Electoral Code, Country of Law Party (OEK) MP Hovhannes Margaryan told reporters on Friday adding that the initiative belongs to his party. The working group will comprise Tigran Urikhanyan (Prosperous Armenia Party -BHK), Tevan Poghosyan (Heritage), Artsvik Minasyan (Armenian Revolutionary Federation -Dashnaktsutyun). Hovhannes Margaryan himself will represent the OEK. The Armenian National Congress (HAK) said they would not participate in the work of the working group. “The working group will be tasked with the changes in the Electoral Code, particularly the transition to a full proportional election system. It means that the working group includes the political forces for whom this is a matter of principle and who gave their consent during the discussions,” he said. The group starts its work on Monday. Mr Margaryan says they intend to invite to discussions extra-parliamentary forces and experts of international organizations.  “We manly agreed that the working group should operate and produce results. It is important for us to have an amended electoral law to be able to hold fair and democratic elections in the country,” he concluded.
