German Ambassador to Armenia Rainer Morel says the creation of the European Union has been one of the greatest achievements of Europe since WWI.  She says joint events will be organized with France and this once again confirms that erstwhile bitter enemies can have completely different relationship years later. British Ambassador to Armenia Katherine Jane Leach hopes that there will be progress in Armenia-Turkey relations next year. While the two ambassadors hailed the frequent meetings of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Rainer Morel advised not expecting serious changes from the meetings. “I welcome the dialogue between the sides and believe that this is the right way to solve problems,” he said. Speaking about the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Morel said he sees signs that Russia wants to regulate relations with Ukraine. Katherine Leach said, in turn, that Ukraine is a self-sufficient country and has the right to choose its path of development. Asked whether the sanctions imposed on Russia would affect Armenia, the German Ambassador said they will not harm other countries as they are directed against Russia. “Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered retaliatory measures against European sanctions that are aimed at agriculture and I think that Armenian agriculture can benefit from this,” he said.
