Snap elections will be held in Armenia next year, Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan announced in parliament on October 29, addressing her words to Chairman of the Central Election Commission Tigran Mukuchyan. “To tell the truth, I did not know about it,” he said without hiding his surprise. “It is what people want. I would like you to clarify how much money you need from the state budget to organize early parliamentary and presidential elections,” continued the lawmaker. “We have already confirmed the list of elections slated for 2016. Regular elections will be held in 150 communities. All other elections are organized in accordance with the Electoral Code. If the snap elections you are speaking about are foreseen by law then they will be held but as far as I know we do not have early elections planned for next year,” Mr Mukuchyan said adding that he cannot present any figures if the ‘snap elections’ are not set by law. His answer did not satisfy Zaruhi Postanjyan. “Anyway, you did not say how much money does the CEC need from the reserve fund to organize snap elections. No one knows what might happen in the country. Judging by the current situations we cannot exclude the possibility of early elections,” she said. Tigran Mukuchyan promised to tell the lawmaker after the sitting how much money the CEC spent on the previous parliamentary elections.
