Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov says political forces in the country are consolidating over the constitutional reforms. “The Republican party finds that there is a need for the constitutional amendments. The same opinion was expressed by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun, Free Democrats and Armenian Pan-National Movement (HHSh),” he said. Eduard Sharmazanov reminds that in 2012 some opposition forces also saw need for constitutional reforms. Today the Republicans have put the amendments in the circulation and are ready to discuss the ‘healthy proposals of the opposition.’ “But only healthy proposals, and not their caprices,” he said. Speaking about the statement of the President’s spokesman who said the Armenian president is likely to make a definitive decision on the draft concept next February-March, the parliament official said the statement was quite logical and had nothing to do with the rallies organized by the three non-governing forces. Dashnaks agree with Eduard Sharmazanov. “If anyone can clearly formulate the approach of the opposition trio, I shall give you a compete response,” said Armen Rustamyan, who heads the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun faction in parliament. “Sargsyan’s spokesman did not make an extraordinary statement. Should he been forced to make such a statement under the pressure of the opposition trio, Sargsyan would immediately refuse to carry out constitutional reforms, hence says Mr Rustamyan. Levon Zurabyan, Head of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction, says Serzh Sargsyan refused to say anything not to give fresh impetus to the opposition rally to be held in Yerevan on October 24. “He [Serzh Sargsyan] is trying to gain time. He calculates to impose the constitutional reforms on people after the wave of protest fades away.” Mr Zurabyan does not rule out that Serzh Sargsyan might not have another opportunity to express his opinion on the constitutional reforms during his presidency. “A situation has created in which the movement is likely to achieve the set goals in a short period of time,” he said.
