An Armenian restaurant has been built in front of a Turkish mosque in Sarpi, a village on the Black sea in Southwestern Georgia, on the border with Turkey. Two citizens from Yerevan have fulfilled the cherished dream of their ancestors… “We are slowly taking back our lands,” say the owners who built the restaurant with their hands. “Ararat” restaurant covers an area of 64 square meters. Here, one can find all dishes of Armenian cuisine starting from traditional kebab and barbeque to the well-known Artsakh mulberry vodka. Though the restaurant serves the beloved dishes of Armenian cuisine, clients are not offered a menu as such. “The restaurant has a verbal menu. We have taught a Georgian girl the names of all dishes and she offers our clients to choose from a variety of foods that she keeps in mind,” says Tigran Barseghyan, one of the owners. The owners say they have never encountered problems because of the name of the restaurant, and there have been many Turks among their clients.
