After Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union, the prices of European products will go up, says the former chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations. Hovhannes Igityan compares the model of the Customs Union with the model of the Soviet Union where everything is good only for local producers: consumers prefer to buy local goods as he prices of imported goods continue hiking. Mr Igityan understands why Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev decided to raise the issue of Karabakh. “It does not refer only to Aliyev and his letter. That man says that everything outside the borders of the country should be agreed upon. Serzh Sargsyan was to say something in that regard, but he did not  do it. He could say it yesterday, in his congratulatory address on the occasion of Independence Day that no customs checkpoint will be set up between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, but he did not do it,” said Mr Igityan. Russia does not view Armenia’s membership to the Customs Union only from the economic point of view, says Artak Kirakosyan, Chairman of the Civil Society Institute. He says nothing will change for Armenia after October 10. “If you think that certain doors will open before Armenia, you are mistaken,” he said.
