The opposition quartet in Armenia will not manage to do everything in autumn, says the president of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs (AIISA). Stepan Safaryan accounts it for the differences inside the non-governing quartet, rather than for the recent threats of the chief of the Armenian police, Vladimir Gasparyan. “The four forces have tactical rather than strategic objectives. They have different visions of the future. For example, if the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and Heritage do not exclude the option ‘revolution from below,’ the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) believes that the situation can change through a smooth change of power and elections,” he said. Stepan Safaryan predicts more controversy inside the opposition quartet. He says the quartet will hold several rallies in autumn although without major changes.  “One of the four forces will be afraid to take drastic actions, while others will try to make definite steps.” In reply to A1+’s question whether Vladimir Gasparyan had a right to announce that ‘they have cold showers for hot autumn,’ Mr Safaryan said the police chief had no right to interfere in political matters. “He could say that the police will keep order during rallies and prevent unplanned actions. Nothing more His words sounded like a threat uttered by certain circles.”
