Employees of Nairit plant have received their salary for one month, Anush Harutyunyan, a spokesperson for the plant, told A1+. The money was paid on Tuesday, September 16. On September 4, employees of the rubber-producing plant gathered outside the government building demanding their unpaid salary for 18 months. They also wanted to know when the plant would resume operations. Earlier, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan promised the plant employees to find out who is guilty for the idling state of the chemical giant by the end of September. So far, the employees have not received an answer. It has become a tradition that Nairit employees should receive salaries only after a protest. Nairit Plant CJSC, which produces chloroprene rubber and was considered a giant of its kind during the Soviet era, hasn’t been operating since 2010. Only 500 of its 2500 employees work in the plant today, others are on compulsory layoff. The plant was founded in 1940. The employees have not received salaries for 17-18 months.
