You can meet Syrian Armenian George Keoshkeryan every day in Vernisazh. He sells silver. He works without weekends to earn money for living. Before coming to Armenia, he had the same business in Syria, but earning money is easier there, “Everything is good here compared with Aleppo- clean air, beauty, but what’s most important, a person must have a job, here it is difficult.” George came to Armenia with his family two years ago. He didn’t have intention to stay. But the war changed his plans. Syrian Armenian businessman, who had his own business and shop in Aleppo, decided to start the same business and stay in the homeland, “When I came, I opened the shop, but I lost much and couldn’t continue.” Silversmiths, with whom he always worked, settled in Armenia. But because of the difficulties, they found another work. George has to sell local production alongside with Syrian goods. He confesses that he doesn’t even think about starting a big business. Syrian Armenian is not able to admit the laws and conditions of Armenian business. He regrets to say that he is waiting for peace in Syria so that he can return to his birthplace with his family.
