Vice-Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly does not argue that after 2018 Serzh Sargsyan will not aspire to any position. “Serzh Sargsyan has said that he will head the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK),” says Eduard Sharmazanov. “He [Serzh Sargsyan] will head the HHK for many years and the HHK will continue to remain the most influential party in the country for a long time. Our party wants it.” Time comes when you evaluate the role of the entire political team, rather than a politician, the current or former president. The HHK and Serzh Sargsyan are now inseparable. “Serzh Sargsyan belongs to the Republican Party but the Republican Party is not Serzh Sargsyan's party.” Mr Sharmazanov says in civilized countries the leader of the ruling political party does not remain without office. “This is the case in Europe and Armenia should choose the model that it is acceptable for Armenia,” he said. Mr Sharmazanov says the constitutional reforms are implemented at the request of pro-government and opposition forces. Asked why the Republicans do not withdraw the reforms given the fact that three major opposition forces are against the amendments, Mr Sharmazanov said, “Politics has turned into something capricious in Armenia.” Before the presidential elections, the opposition pressed for further constitutional reforms while today the same opposition is against the package; it is ridiculous,” he said.
