During today’s parliament sitting, the secretary of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction again raised the issue of emigration. Aram Manukyan said that the issue was raised earlier by another HAK member, Levon Zurabyan, but it was left unanswered. “The issue is urgent. Serious demographic changes are taking place in Armenia. We are conducting serious studies. You can decide on the format of parliamentary hearings, they can be open or closed door but we demand that hearings be initiated in the near future. Using the statutory rights I appeal to all political parties to organize parliamentary hearings or to present the issue in parliament in some other format,” said Mr Manukyan. With a 62/16 vote, the National Assembly today approved the composition of the Audit Committee. HAK MP Levon Zurabyan said taking into consideration the numerous machinations carried out recently his faction will abstain from participating in illegalities and will not be represented at the Audit Committee. Naira Zohrabyan, Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) said her party will not be represented at the Committee either as ‘it [the Audit Committee] implies the dominance of one force – the ruling Republican Party, which is also a violation of pluralism.’ “Political majority dominates in all democratic countries,” said Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov. Republican MP Arakel Movsisyan had registered to ask a question but the question was not heard during today's sitting.
