Russia cannot physically agree to a ceasefire, says Putin’s spokesman

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko says he has agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone on a “ceasefire process” for the east, the president’s website stated.

Mr Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said a phone conversation had taken place on Wednesday between the two presidents in which their points of view had “coincided significantly” on possible ways to end the crisis.

“Putin and Poroshenko really discussed the steps that would contribute to a ceasefire between the militia and the Ukrainian forces. Russia cannot physically agree to a ceasefire because it is not a party to the conflict,” Dmitry Peskov said.
